Education has long been the foundation of progress in any society. It equips individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to build a better future. However, in Iligan, many students face barriers to education—from lack of financial resources to inadequate educational facilities. Aspirant Mayor Roy Ga has recognized this challenge and has made a firm stand: education must come first because the future of Iligan depends on it.

𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀

“Dugay na kitang nananawagan sa maayong edukasyon sa Iligan, apan nagpadayon ang kawalay pagtagad sa atong kabatan-onan,” Roy Ga stated during a recent gathering. He emphasized that while Iligan has the potential to be a leading city in Mindanao, the local government has failed to prioritize education, leaving thousands of students struggling to pursue their dreams.

In his speech, he openly criticized the current administration’s lack of focus on education, stating that politics has overshadowed public service. “Dili angay ipailawom sa politika ang kaugmaon sa atong kabatan-onan,” he added, making it clear that his leadership would prioritize students, teachers, and the overall education system rather than personal or political interests.

𝗔 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗧𝗼 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗻

One of Roy Ga’s major commitments is to establish a new community college in Iligan, specifically designed for students who cannot afford to enroll in private institutions.

“Wala ko’y pagduhaduha—magtukod kita og bag-ong community college sa Iligan alang sa mga kabatan-onang walay kapasidad mo-eskwela,” he declared.

This initiative aims to:
✅ Provide free or low-cost education for underprivileged students.
✅ Offer technical and vocational courses to equip students with practical skills for employment.
✅ Ensure accessibility, making quality education available to students across different barangays.
✅ Improve teacher training and support, recognizing that quality education depends on well-equipped educators.

The proposed community college will not only benefit fresh high school graduates but will also cater to out-of-school youth and working individuals who wish to pursue higher education while balancing other responsibilities.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗻’𝘀 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺

Roy Ga pointed out some of the main problems in Iligan’s education sector that need urgent solutions:

1. Lack of Accessible Educational Institutions

Many students in rural barangays struggle to access schools, with some having to travel long distances or drop out due to financial constraints. Ga’s solution is to establish satellite learning centers and scholarship programs that make education more accessible.

2. Insufficient Scholarship Programs

Although some scholarship programs exist, they are often limited in scope and politically motivated. Roy Ga proposes a transparent, merit-based scholarship system that prioritizes students based on academic performance and financial need rather than political connections.

3. Outdated School Facilities and Resources

Many public schools in Iligan lack proper classrooms, learning materials, and technology. Roy Ga plans to allocate higher funding for school improvements, ensuring that students have access to modern learning tools such as computers, internet connectivity, and updated textbooks.

4. Underpaid and Overworked Teachers

Teachers play a crucial role in shaping the future, yet many struggle with low salaries and lack of support. Roy Ga’s plan includes higher wages, better benefits, and professional development programs for teachers.

𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵

Roy Ga understands that improving education requires collaboration between government, private institutions, and the community. He has already gained support from key leaders, including Congressman Regencia, Vice Mayor WekWek Uy, and local councilors, who share his vision for educational reform in Iligan.

“Ang ilang suporta nagpakita nga aduna pa’y mga lider nga andam motabang alang sa kalambuan sa edukasyon sa Iligan,” he said, acknowledging their commitment to the cause.

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

Aside from formal education, Roy Ga also prioritizes youth empowerment programs, ensuring that Iligan’s young people are prepared to contribute to society and succeed in their chosen fields. His initiatives include:

• Entrepreneurship Training – Providing financial support and mentorship for young business owners.

• Job Readiness Programs – Partnering with industries to provide internships and employment opportunities for graduates.

• Leadership Development – Encouraging students to engage in civic activities and governance to develop future leaders.

“Aton’g panggaon ang Iliganon, dili ang politika,” he urged. “Mao nga unahon nako ang edukasyon, unahon nako ang kabatan-onan, ug unahon nako ang kaugmaon sa atong dakbayan.”

His leadership is about real service, real solutions, and real progress. With his vision, dedication, and action, Iligan can achieve a future where every child has access to quality education and opportunities to succeed.
